"The wizard seemed asleep, but with lids not fully closed.... But Gandalf made no sign. He was rolled in a blanket, with his cloak spread over the top; and close beside him, between his side and his bent arm, there was ... something wrapped in a dark cloth.... (Pippin) slowly lifted the lump up .... Then and idea came into his mind. He tiptoed away, found a large stone, and came back. Quickly now he drew off the cloth, wrapped the stone in it and laid it back by the wizard's hand. Then at last he looked at the thing that he had uncovered: a smooth globe of crystal ... lying bare before his knees. Pippin lifted it... and stole away...." --The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
I've seriously been loving these Lord of the Rings books. I really enjoyed the movies and am looking forward to The Hobbit!
This piece is one I've been working on for at least a month now; it started out as a pencil sketch from back before we had a scanner and evolved from there. It was frustrating to work with at times, because I kept learning new things (for instance, decent composition [link]) and changing the painting. My main incentive to get this close to finished was a contest that had begun shortly after I'd started. I cut the deadline really close, submitted it two hours before the contest was over. Being short on time motivated me to get the painting done faster, but I still don't consider it finished. I focused on the important things, and there are a few things that received very little attention. But this is as close to being done as this will get for who knows how long now, because life goes on.
Anyways. Wow, that has got to be my longest description yet! I really appreciate any comments you would share, from critiques on the art to your opinion on Tolkien's stories! Please download for full view!
Pippin looks like a little thief LOL Looking at Gandalf thinking 'my glowing ball!' haha And i just realized Gandalf's eyes were open-haha forgot about that. Exellent work!
